Will Social Networks Burst Like The Dot Com Boom?
Social networks are all the rage these days. You tell me one person who isn’t on one. From Facebook to Myspace, Twitter to FriendFeed, we’re all socializing somewhere, but is it all just a phase? Will this pop just like the dot com boom did?
I wonder if these networks and services will evolve instead of simply dying off and being replaced. Will socializing as much as we do eventually stop? Will Social Bookmarking pop?
What do you see for the future of these social web tools?

I already hardly ever check Myspace or Facebook, I'm on FriendFeed the most and as soon as something else comes along that is better I will migrate there. Most of my friends are left behind in my last social network but that's ok because I can still keep track of them through rss on my new favorite site. I think they will evolve and the boundaries between them will get very blurry as time goes by.
I think we'll see a couple fading away. Others will merge or change their focus. Some may go vertical and cater to specific crowds again. Maybe we'll even see the rise of highly localized networks, thus limiting the information overload. But we haven't seen the end of it. Social networking changed the way we work, play and interact. It's not just going to burst.
I think.
I think it's a fad for now, kind of like yahoo chat, and msning lost popularity. I guess only time will tell – in the mean time I'll keep on twittering and tell everyone I know about it!
How about the impact of businesses adopting Web 2.0 inside the firewall, aka Enterprise 2.0? There's a lot of value that Web 2.0 has brought to the wide open Web. A lot of businesses, and software companies, see the potential to apply these technologies to improve productivity and collaboration.
Well once these technologies are rolled out to employees, many will be exposed to them for the first time: social networks, tagging, RSS, blogging, etc. A good question to ask: will this exposure increase the adoption of Web 2.0 by the mainstream consumer market?

I do believe that social networks are here to stay and for long too. In the few years of its reign it has brought almost a revolution in the internet…. let's just imagine what will happen in more years to come.
Chill :)
