Tech – Did Windows Update Broke Opera

NOTE: This issue has been fixed…for me and it was Google’s fault!

After I did a Windows Update yesterday (I was quite behind on them since I have automatic updates disabled), Opera no longer displays Google Reader properly (or is it the other way around?). Instead I have this:

Google Reader in Opera

This is basically just a box. Before, everything was displaying properly. Now, well you’ll see once you click the preview picture. Is anyone else having this technical problem?

  1. A false correlation perhaps? Maybe Google Reader got updated too during that time, which is why it doesn’t work in Opera anymore. Yes, I’m having the same problem.

  2. Possible, but I was on Google Reader the entire process of windows update using Opera. Then once I restarted my computer, no more Google Reader. This is why I’m blaming Microsoft.

  3. Possible, although it seems more likely that the restart reloaded Google Reader. Or it could just be Microsoft. Only way to know would be to test on a pre-update machine.

  4. Don’t worry Corvida, the Google Reader team is already on top of it:

    Hi Opera-fans,

We’re working on getting this problem fixed. In the meantime, I’ve
found that resizing my browser window, even just slightly, shakes the
layout back into place. Though I’ve also heard some feedback that
that’s not working for everybody. Anyway, hang in there and we’ll get
things back to normal when we can.

    Thanks,
    Graham
