What’s Better Than FriendFeed?

Posted by Corvida On May - 18 - 2008

winextra Steven Hodson’s daily "From The Pipeline" articles from WinExtra!

Ok ok. Maybe it’s not a FriendFeed killer. However, every night around 10:30 est, Steven posts a couple of links of some of the best content found on FriendFeed and provides some brief commentary about each article. I find the roundup to be a great way to not only discover more content, but to also get a nice overview of the mood and tone of the FriendFeed community.

rss So, if you’re not already subscribing to WinExtra: subscribe here. Just want the Pipeline feed? You’ll be missing out on a lot: From The Pipeline RSS Feed. Check out the latest update from the Pipeline.

FriendfeedWatch: Your One Stop FriendFeed Shop

Posted by Corvida On April - 3 - 2008

friendfeed_logoFriendfeedWatch was recently started by the awesomesauce Steven Hodson of WinExtra in an attempt to "bring everything to do with FriendFeed to one handy place."Well, I’d call this attempt a success already because I’m religiously watching this site (subscribe to it here)! It’s being Awesomesauce Approved.

At FriendfeedWatch, you can find a host of news on not only FriendFeed site updates and changes, but also links and news to the multitude of FriendFeed applications that are being released!

LiveBlogList for Friendfeed

For example, through FriendfeedWatch, I found out about the LiveBlogList for FriendFeed web app. Through LiveBlogList, you can find other people who have also shared a particular item that you shared too. You’ll receive a list of links to profiles of "People That You Will Like" and "Posted Items You Will Like". All you have to do is type in a url and LiveBlogList will do the rest. I typed in my old domain url and got this:

LiveBlogList for FriendFeed

Maybe they should change that to "People I MIGHT Like". Do you notice anyone there who I won’t like? Obviously this needs a little more work, since I’m listed several times as someone that I may like. Even though it may not know it’s me, what’s the point in pointing me out so many times? Nevertheless, I did get some great article recommendations! This web app is also awesomesauce approved!

Save For Later In FriendFeed

I’ve also been informed of another script that has been released that allows you to bookmark a post on Friendfeed for later. Some wonderful things are being made for Friendfeed! Now go keep up with them at FriendfeedWatch!

Here’s the first in my series of "Awesomesauce Approved" sites and people to come! Congrats cranky old fart!

FriendFeed and Disqus Are Next Generation Services

Posted by Corvida On March - 25 - 2008

FriendFeed Adds New Services

friendfeed_logo You can now stream your Disqus comments through FriendFeed! Personally, I think this is a major step in the right direction to solving the conversation fragmentation controversy. Here’s what the developers of FriendFeed had to say:

We had a “Fix-it Day” at FriendFeed on Friday, which means we spent all our time on the top bugs and feature requests from our discussion group. You can now add these web sites to your FriendFeed:

Reply To Twitter Through FriendFeed

Not only have these new services been integrated, but you can now post replies to Twitter through FriendFeed! This is so huge because it allows for threading of comments to take place, thereby enabling users to follow conversations on Twitter a lot more efficiently than on the Twitter website itself. Another notable and new service that does this is Quotably. However, where Quotably is more of a hit or miss service for following conversations on Twitter, FriendFeed gets it right. On the downside, the threading only applies to replies that are posted on FriendFeed and not on the Twitter service itself.

FriendFeed API

FriendFeed has also launched it’s API only a day after the previous feature announcements of the implementation of new services and being able to post a reply to Twitter. I’ve already posted my list of applications that I’d like to see pop up and use the new FriendFeed API.

Disqus Approved!

Disqus If you’ve been to any of my most recent posts, you’ll notice that I’ve integrated the Disqus social commenting system into SheGeeks! Here’s why:

  • Better tracking of conversations
  • Better organization of conversations on each posts
  • Disqus has now been integrated into FriendFeed

Others are also jumping on the Disqus bandwagon! I blame it all on Steven Hodson of WinExtra for planting the Disqus seed that is spreading like a wildfire. I see Disqus as next generation commenting. Here are a few responses from my friends on FriendFeed about Disqus:
