Swept Away is a neat little freeware app that will minize any windows that are inactive for a specified period of time. In other words, it cleans your desktop for you while you work. If there are windows that you like to constantly have open, you can specify which windows you’d like for it to leave alone in the exclusion list. It has a small footprint and the creater has released a new version/update that fixed quite a few bugs that were previously present. I’ve had no problem running it and it does its job very well! The creator, Adam Pash from one of my favorite sites, Lifehacker, recommends using it in conjuction with another one of his creations, Dropcloth. Dropcloth is to Windows what Backdrop is to Mac. It will instantly provide an overlay on your screen to clear your desktop for a screenshot or screencast, so that you can focus on one application.
