I definitely think it could lead to popularity contests.

That said, I would find it a useful tool, especially in remembering why I followed certain people. My lists will be public, which keeps with the trend of my Twitter being public. Plus, I do think the lists will be helpful for finding followers of those I follow who I might be interested in.

You're 100% right about this feeding into the platform's popularity drama. Maybe now would be a great time for Twitter to follow LinkedIn's lead and get rid of follower count numbers over 500. That alone would cut down on a certain level of drama and ego Tripping.

I'm all for the sharing of lists though. To paraphrase Social Media Club…If you care, share.
