Organization In Google Reader

I wish I could do more with starred items in Google Reader! It’s so frustrating to have so many unorganized starred items. I hate tagging items, which is what some of you might recommend doing. Tagging can get just as messy as what I have now. Google, if you’re listening, give me more ways to organize my starred items!
