How Important Is Your Google PageRank To Your Site Analytics?

“Google has removed the PageRank section in the crawl statistics in Google Webmaster Tools”.
Yes, I had that weird look on my face too when I read the article.
Googler, Susan Moskwa explained why in the thread:
We’ve been telling people for a long time that they shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it’s the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true. We removed it because we felt it was silly to tell people not to think about it, but then to show them the data, implying that they should look at it. :-)
Does anyone else have questions? Here’s what I’d to hear your thoughts on:
- How important was your Google PageRank to you?
- Did you ever list it as a benefit for speaking, sponsoring, or advertising on your blog?
- Do you think this will have an impact on your blog’s reputation or credibility?

I'm kind of glad about this. I always felt PageRank was something internet marketers used mostly for bragging rights, or to try and convince you that their site was worth exchanging links with. In reality I never felt it was a valuable indicator of a site's credibility. I also think that the obsession with PageRank made people stingy with their outbound links.
Page isn't as relevant as it used to be. I am more concerned about traffic, alexa ratings and SEO. If a blog with a PR3 has better content with a blog that's a PR6, I'll go with better content and audience. For my job, it's quality over quantity. The best ROI may be found in a blog that doesn't have the highest PageRanks. Lucy's right, people are obsessive.
