Feedalizr Updates, Still Not A Competitor

friendfeed_logoFeedalizr, the first Friendfeed AIR app to be released, has released an update to their client. However, it’s a bit of a disappointment compared to Alert Thingy (app review), Twhirl (app review), and bTT (app review).

Changes

  • Twitter integration
  • Filtering options
  • Comment/Like items

The Experience Sucksfeedalizr_update

Sorry to put it so frankly, but it does. You can now filter by name, date, and service. Unfortunately, the filtering options are very basic. For example, sorting items by service doesn’t give you the option of picking which services you’d like to see by themselves. I’m not exactly sure how to describe it, so you’ll have to check it out for yourself. Sorting by name filters the latest updates alphabetically by username.

Items that have new likes or comments are not filtered back to the top of the stream. Also, with the new update, Feedalizr is a serious memory hog. It’s currently using 72% of my resources as I type this post.

The Bright Side

Sharing an item to Friendfeed and Twittering using Feedalizr is simple and quick. You can easily reply to a Twitter message by clicking on the Twitter icon for an item. The username of the person who posted the Twitter item will pop up in a box at the top of the client. When posting a comment or like, the app will automatically refresh to display the new update. Still, as aforementioned, nothing new goes back to the top of the stream.

A Day Late, A Dollar Short

All in all, the upgrade is a let down and I’ll be uninstalling it sometime today. It lags behind its competition tremendously. What are your thoughts on Feedalizr?

  1. Good summary, what everyone don't understand is this one rule: Keep It Simple!

That's why twitter works, so just make simple apps for simple sites. I just hope they don't mess twhirl up.

    Thanks

Hello there! It seems that a great part of your thoughts has been addressed with the new version of Feedalizr (1.0.3 alpha). Check this out… See you!

  3. While I'm happy to see the memory issue fixed, the filter list needs a makeover. How about instead of a drop down list, having another menu displayed underneath to scroll through, or maybe another window that pops out?

  4. Hi

Thanks for the constructive criticism. We have sorted out the high CPU use. We have also replaced the sort buttons, with a single filter button, that allows you to filter by username or by service.

    @Corvida
Thanks for this, we will definitely look into a rework of the UI, including the the way filter options are presented, as well as how filtered results are displayed.

We are planning to integrate more of the friendfeed API soon, which will allow simultaneous views of different feeds. This will include a significant redesign of the UI.

  5. I'll be looking forward to the redesign update. The simultaneous views of
different feeds sounds like an awesomesauce features! Keep us posted here on
SheGeeks and you're more than welcome to email me. :)

  6. Simple and easy to use but pack with power are what users look for. Hey, constructive criticism really work, isn't it.
