South by Southwest (SxSW) is the end all be all for some geeks. I’ve heard numerous stories from colleagues and friends about the pure geek glory of going to SxSW. Oh the dreams I’ve had of meeting Amanda Gravel, Sarah Perez, Louis Gray, Wayne Sutton, Gaeia Brown and tons more bloggers and friends that I’d have to travel all across the U.S. just to see! I know what you’re thinking, who doesn’t have this dream every year? Me, actually.
I first heard about SxSW when Twitter debuted at the event. However, last year Twitter users took SxSW to an entirely different galaxy for me. They made it a priority.
UPDATE: See the crazy amount of Retweets generated here and here! Keep those retweets rolling in!
I pine, I burn, I parish! I WANT TO GO TO SXSW!
It’s as if my geek credentials depend on this one event. I know that they don’t, but who doesn’t want to add hilarious and awesomesauce SxSW stories to their repertoire?! Don’t lie because I sure do!
I want to meet the geeks on Twitter that I’ve wanted to connect with face-to-face for over a year now. I want to hear and see, first-hand, the innovation of services that will be introduced. I want to hear the secret tips that bloggers pass to one another after the panels end and the tweet-ups begin, the name dropping…the beer. Alcohol really doesn’t play an important role in my reasons for wanting to go to SxSW, but damn will it feel good to be able to drink with everyone now that I’m finally 21!
Most importantly, SxSW would be a trip outside of my normal surroundings. In my neighborhood, technology doesn’t really exist. Not the type of technology that not only exists but spreads like wildfire at SxSW. It’s even hard to find that type of spirit, community, and innovation here in Atlanta. But I digress.
A Good Candidate For A SxSW Interactive Badge
I’ve written for ReadWriteWeb, am well known among the social media and technology scene, and Fast Company has noted me as one of the most influential women in tech. I manage a podcast and Twitter site (EverythingTwitter) with Chris Miller, and am involved in the Girls in Tech Atlanta chapter as the Director of Communications. I’m attempting to become more active on the Atlanta tech scene, which is my local tech community.
Well, I think the following sentence will give the previous paragraph a run for its money:
I’m going to SxSW!!! #geek
ReTweet Me
Of course, that sentence isn’t true right now. I’m entering the Blog World contest to win a SxSW pass/badge. As part of my plea to win this contest, I’d like to ask you, my visitors, to retweet the link to this post if you think I’m a good candidate for a free SxSW Interactive Badge. You can use the following link if you’d like: http://bit.ly/rtcorvida .
The retweets will show up towards the bottom of this post.
