Part of the limitations is what's available with the API. There's stuff you just can't do in a desktop client at the moment.

That's why the greasemonkey scripts have a lot more flexibility… we're bypassing the API and interacting directly with the web site (plus you're already logged in, so we don't need login info, etc)
